Yankees hitting clinic with John Mallee of the Florida Marlins

Marlins hitting instructor John Mallee held a hitting clinic recently for the Yankees and a few other select players in the area.

Mallee was in town working with former Yankee and current Marlins outfielder Jeremy Hermida for a few days, and the Yankees put on the evening clinic at Sportsarama in Roswell, and a second clinic in Douglasville the following evening.  Mallee is well known as an outstanding hitting coach and his clinic was outstanding with emphasis on swing mechanics, drills, mental aspects and use of video.  The clinic was well attended by not only players, but also several coaches in the area.  You can find more information on John Mallee at www.JohnMallee.com . He has videos and instructional tapes available.

Former player named Scout of the Year

Tim Osborne, who played with the Yankees in their early years, was named Scout of the Year by The Major League Scouting Bureau.  Tim was a catcher for the Yanks and still occasionally helps with some part-time instruction with their catchers.

Former players make for great camp instructors

The Yankees held their annual winter camp on January 24th at Lassiter High School, with what may have been one of the most outstanding group of instructors of any camp around.  Former Yankees and current major leaguers Jeremy Hermida, Matt Murton, Micah Owings, and Jimmy Barthmaier headed up the clinicians, along with UGA All-American and Chicago White Sox 1st round pick Gordon Beckham.  Rounding out the staff were former Yankees Jef Kindal (AA Colorado Rockies organization), Eddie Burns (A Cleveland Indians organization), and Lincoln Martin (former Birmingham Southern All-American, Baltimore Orioles organization, and now a scout for the Houston Astros).

Feb. 2nd - Another Cover Story

Dexter Fowler became the 5th Yankee to be featured on the cover of Baseball America in the February 9th issue.  Dexter joins Gordon Beckham, Stephen Drew, Micah Owings, and Jeremy Hermida as cover boys for Baseball America.  He enters the 2009 season with a good chance of ending up as center fielder of the Colorado Rockies.
