Week of September 20th
Former Yankees make a splash in the big show:
Former East Cobb Yankees have made some big news in the Major leagues lately. Jeremy Hermida made his entrance into Major League Baseball in a big way, hitting a pinch hit grand slam home run in his first big league at bat…the 1st player in modern major league history to accomplish such a feat. Matt Murton recently hit his 5th home run of the season for the Chicago Cubs, and has maintained a batting average well over .300 for the entire time he’s been up with the Cubs. And this past weekend, Matt Capps made his major league debut with a relief stint for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
We’ll also be listing our minor league players and their season stats in the next few days.
Rebuilding begins for 2006
Although we are still enjoying the excitement and fun of our recent Connie Mack championship, we are also beginning to put together our team for 2006. We return 11 players from our championship team, but must rebuild our pitching staff after losing Miers Quigley, Chris Hicks, Brent Hallman, AJ Gilbert and Trevor Holder. We’ll also look to add a couple of outfielders and infielders to replace Gordon Beckham, Brian Pierce, and Brandon Henderson. To date, we are very excited to have the following players join our club for 2006:
Nathan Vineyard – An outstanding left handed pitcher who also has the ability add some punch to our offense. Can be a great one.
Taylor Wood – Another lefty with huge ability and potential. The cousin of former Yankee and current Georgia Tech star Blake Wood. He and Vineyard both have high ceiling potential and adds 2 new great lefties to our staff.
Brodie Pullen – A right handed pitcher / infielder with a big arm and also ability to help us with some infield depth. Another one with big potential.
Sam Allen – Another great arm from Roswell High School who has chance to follow in footsteps of former Roswell HS and EC Yankees, Jimmy Barthmaier, Miers Quigley, and Brent Hallman.
Brian Fletcher – Middle infielder, son of former Major Leaguer Scott Fletcher. Very aggressive, plays the game hard, and chance to add big offense to the team.
Taylor Whitenton – Another righty with big arm potential and also a very athletic player who can play both infield or outfield. Has chance to be very hard thrower.
Kevin Bishop –Another outstanding player from Lassiter High School, whose outfield skills are among the best in the state, plays the game the way it is supposed to be played.
