The Yankees season opener will be delayed due to High School Playoffs.  Many Yankee players are still playing in State playoffs with Milton, Lassiter, Roswell, East Coweta, and Westminster.  Several other players will be on the rosters of upcoming Georgia Dugout Club all-star games played over the Memorial Day weekend….

The upcoming Major League Baseball draft is sure to have the names of many current and ex-Yankees involved.  Chris Nelson (Redan) is expected to be one of the top 10 picks in the country, as is former Yankee Steven Drew (FSU).  Expected to follow shortly behind those as first or second round picks are Dexter Fowler (Milton HS) and Micah Owings (GT).  Former Yankees Brandon Boggs (GT), Clifton Remole (GT) also could be first day draftees, and Georgia’s Marshall Szabo and Vandy’s Jon Douillard could also see their names called at some time.  Jon Mark Owings (Gainesville), Luke Putkonen (Walton HS),  Danny Payne (Sequoyah), Brad Emaus (E Coweta), Tim Ladd (Kell),  and Eddie Burns (Hiram) are all possible draftees, but signability (college vs. pro ball)  becomes an issue with each of them and their draft chances.

Once again the Yankees will host one of the premier Amateur tournaments in the country from June 29th through July 4th.  The tournament has become a Who’s Who of amateur baseball, with perennial national powerhouses such as Dallas Mustangs, Midland Redskins, Dulins Dodgers, Bayside Yankees, Bill Hood Team Lousiana, Bama Bombers, Kansas Sluggers, Coral Springs Pokers, Virginia Barnstormers, and Dallas Tigers joining the Yankees in this elite 12 team tournament.  One of the most highly scouted tournaments in America, as many as 75 college coaches and pro scouts have attended the tournament in previous years.

Miers Quigley (Roswell) has been invited to participate in the 2004 AFLAC All-American game to be held in August.  Chris Nelson was MVP of last year’s inaugural game, which also included Dexter Fowler and Brad Emaus.  Quigs is rated as one of the top ’05 players in America by most scouts and baseball services.
