Yankees in the Major League Baseball Draft:

Once again, a Yankee shortstop goes in the 1st round.  Tyler Greene was selected in the 1st round of the recent MLB draft by the St. Louis Cardinals, making him the 3rd Yankee shortstop to be selected in the 1st round.  In 2004, both Steven Drew and Chris Nelson were both 1st round picks.  Drew recently signed for over $5 million and Nelson signed last summer for over $2 million.

Greene became the 10th current or former Yankee to be drafted in the 1st round.

Outfielder Keiron Pope, from E. Coweta HS, was a 4th round pick of the Baltimore Orioles.

 Another interesting note- With Blackwood’s selection, it brings the number of players drafted from the Yankees 2001 Connie Mack Championship team to 12, and the approximate total value of all their signing bonuses to over $10 million.
