Yankees in the Major League Baseball Draft:

Once again, a Yankee shortstop goes in the 1^st round.  Tyler Greene was selected in the 1^st round of the recent MLB draft by the St. Louis Cardinals, making him the 3^rd Yankee shortstop to be selected in the 1^st round.  In 2004, both Steven Drew and Chris Nelson were both 1^st round picks.  Drew recently signed for over $5 million and Nelson signed last summer for over $2 million.

Greene became the 10^th current or former Yankee to be drafted in the 1^st round.

Outfielder Keiron Pope, from E. Coweta HS, was a 4^th round pick of the Baltimore Orioles.

 Another interesting note- With Blackwood’s selection, it brings the number of players drafted from the Yankees 2001 Connie Mack Championship team to 12, and the approximate total value of all their signing bonuses to over $10 million.
