2007 MLB Draft

Updates

2007 Draft - Day 1

The Yankees were both well represented and also hurt by the first day of the MLB amateur draft.  Left handed pitcher Nathan Vineyard was chosen in the 1st round (supplemental) as the 47th pick overall by the New York Mets, and 4 picks later, infielder Charlie Culberson was chosen by the San Francisco Giants.  Both are expected to sign and will leave a huge gap in the Yankees pitching staff as well as their infield and batting order…Our congrats to both of these outstanding young men!

It was also a great day for several other former Yankees.   Georgia Tech's Danny Payne was also chosen in the 1st round (supplemental) and 64th pick overall, by the Sand Diego Padres, and former Yank and current UNC pitcher Luke Putkonen was taken in the 3rd round (121st overall) by the Detroit Tigers.

The first day of the draft only covered the 1st 5 rounds.  The remainder of the draft will be held Friday.
